Hello, I just wanted to give you guys a little life update. My original plans for this year were to move to South America and teach English or History at an international school. Obviously with Covid-19, those plans were a no go. In April, I had a bit of a panic trying to figure out what I wanted to do so this year isn’t a total waste in terms of opportunities and experience, so I decided to join AmeriCorps NCCC.
AmeriCorps NCCC is a volunteer based programs that puts you in small groups consisting of 18-24 year old and we travel around the United States doing different community service projects. Helping others and making a difference is something really important to me. And of course, you guys know my love for travel.
On November 3, I flew to Colorado, where we will be going through a 3 week training. Then, we will be sent out on various projects including rural and urban development, environmental restoration, wildfire relief, education, first responder work, etc. I am actually currently in Covid-19 quarantine here on base with a few other people. I feel fine, but I had a fever earlier in the morning the day after my arrival. We were taken to a testing clinic and will get our results back in a few days, so hopefully I am negative.
I am excited to be apart of this program and the adventure that it entails. I’ll keep you guys posted as my time serving progresses. With this new position, I may not have as much time to read and post on my blog, but my goal is still to make The Travelling Reader and priority for me. Thanks for reading, remember to always try to do something that makes a difference!
