Book Tag | 2020 Superlatives

Thank you A Book Owl’s Corner for tagging me and I wanted to let you know I am definitely thinking about you and your kitty! This tag was created by Alex over at The Scribe Owl, and while 2021 hasn’t been the start of a new year I hoped it would be, I’m ready to reflect on some of 2020.

Rules:

  • Fill out each of the prompts with your answer. Each character/book you choose has to be one you read in 2020.
  • Tag as many or few people as you want, but preferably somewhere around 10.
  • Have fun and happy new year!!

BEST VILLAIN

The Hunt (Twisted Kingdoms #1) by Frost Kay is a classic case of is the villain really the villain? Tempest, the main character sets out to hunt down The Jester, but is it all as black and white as it seemed?

BEST MAIN CHARACTER

Yolanda from The Matriarch (Women of the Dust #1) by Annabelle McInnes is amazing! She has such incredible inner strength and just wants to do right by her people. If you haven’t read this book yet… do it!

BEST SIDE CHARACTER

Nathaniel from Bright Wicked by Everly Frost is the male protagonist. I love him. He is such a great character and just wants to protect his people (Clearly that is the quality of a good character for me lol).

TOUGH LUCK – A CHARACTER THAT YOU’RE GLAD YOU AREN’T

Olivia from A Spark of Joy by Lea Darragh is absolutely awful. I literally ranted about her (and most of the other characters in this book) in my review. The only reason I finished this book is because I received it as an ARC and I figured I should give a review after reading all of it, regrets!

BEST PLACE TO RAISE A FAMILY

Um, I’m not sure. Any book that is set on the beach to be honest lol.

UNINHABITABLE – A SETTING YOU WOULD NEVER WANT TO LIVE IN

Red Rider by Kate Avery Ellison is a fairy tale retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, but picture a cross between that and The Handmaid’s Tale. Big old nope in terms of living in a world where women are seen only for their ability to reproduce.

MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED – AN INDIE BOOK UNDERHYPED THAT EVERYONE SHOULD TRY

This topic made me realize, I really do not pay attention to the types of books I read. I use Kindle Unlimited so the only thing I really look for is if it is on KU and if it looks interesting. However, this is a good learning experience and I can be more aware moving forward.

LIFE OF THE PARTY – A BOOK THAT KEPT YOU LAUGHING AND HAVING A GOOD TIME

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score is hilarious! Literally the first chapter of the book has you thinking WTF and you know it’s going to be a wild ride.

MOST UNFORGETTABLE – A BOOK YOU COULDN’T FORGET IF YOU TRIED

Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuinston is something I will never forget! It literally checks all the boxes for representation and the parallel universe of it to American politics. Amazing.

MOST UNIQUE

Allister Boone by Torvi Tacuski is like nothing I have ever read before. The main character is Death and he is battling against Time. Death is trying to save patients as his psychologist job while Time is trying to kill them. Who will win?
